Over 32,000 youth engaged in sports activities in Kangan: Govt | KNO

Srinagar, Oct 30 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government informed the Legislative Assembly that more than 32,000 boys and girls from Kangan constituency participated in various sports and youth-centric programmes during the last one year. In a written reply to starred question tabled by MLA Mian Mehar Ali, the Department of Youth Services and Sports (YS&S), as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that a total of 18,981 boys and 13,240 girls took part in different games, sports events, and activities aimed at promoting fitness, teamwork, and leadership among the youth. The reply further mentioned that seven students from Kangan constituency represented the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir at the national level during 2024–25, while 86 sports kits were distributed across various panchayats and schools in the area. As part of efforts to attract youth towards sports, the department organized regular interaction programmes, drug de-addiction drives, and felicitation ceremonies for outstanding young sportspersons. Various inter-school, inter-zonal, and inter-panchayat tournaments were held in disciplines including football, cricket, volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, badminton, athletics, and indigenous games. The reply also stated that multiple activities were conducted under national initiatives such as My Youth My Pride, Khelo India, Fit India Movement, and Jan Abhiyaan. To boost sports infrastructure, the government said it has developed the following facilities in Kangan constituency: Playfield in village Bhag Surfraw Hariganiwan,Concrete Badminton Court at BHSS Hariganiwan,Synthetic Volleyball Court with fencing at Kijpora Kangan, Synthetic Basketball Court at BHSS Kangan. The department added that it continues to focus on providing youth with better sports infrastructure and regular opportunities to engage in constructive and nation-building activities—(KNO)
